Why Latin America?

A diverse, vibrant and enchanting region, Latin America radiates natural beauty, adventure and mysticism.

After all, its diverse wildlife inspired Charles Darwin’s thoughts on evolution; its deep forests lured hundreds on a quest to find the mysterious El Dorado; and its ancient temples brought a fictional Indiana Jones searching for the Crystal Skulls.

With a population of over 650 million people, Latin America boasts a diverse mix of languages, religions, and traditions, making it a melting pot of cultures.

Known for its rich cultural heritage influenced by indigenous civilizations, Spanish and Portuguese colonialism, and African heritage, the region is home to a wide range of landscapes. From the lush Amazon rainforest and the Andes mountain range to vast pampas and pristine beaches, Latin America truly has something for everyone.

In many parts of Latin America, indigenous communities live much as they did centuries ago. Their rich traditions are reflected in colorful, hand-woven textiles, arts, crafts and still held ancient rituals. Thriving open-air markets provide a melting pot of nearby villagers as well as international travelers.

Active volcanoes, snow-capped peaks and glaciers, the longest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere, vast rainforests, including the famous Amazon basin all await travelers interested in this destination. Those with a lust for adventure can literally reach the “end of the world” at Tierra del Fuego, the tip of South America in the subantarctic.

One of the world’s most popular destinations, the bustling Rio de Janeiro, combines world-famous beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema against a backdrop of towering rock formations, with incredible nightlife and pulsating Carnaval celebrations.

Another cosmopolitan center, Buenos Aires, famous for being the birthplace of the tango, exudes a seductive charm, reflecting a varied European heritage and an array of architectural styles.

Today’s active travelers often combine Latin America’s natural treasures and rich culture with a dizzying variety of high-energy activities, such as:

Mountain biking – Hiking – Volcano climbing – Jungle trekking – White-water rafting – Surfing – Snorkeling – Diving – Kayaking – Wildlife expeditions – Cultural immersion – Volunteering

Few regions on Earth offer the diverse destinations of Latin America, making it possible for travelers to enjoy a unique selection of activities for the adventure of a lifetime.
